Regulations

These are the approved course regulations for the academic year 2023/24.

You are required to take the core module and choose modules totalling at least 45 CATS credits from the list of optional modules. Enough options have to be taken in order to raise the total load to at least 120 CATS credits, which is defined to be the normal load for this course. The maximum permitted load is 150 CATS.

Third Year Physics Modules

Where the timetable permits this, you may take physics modules from the third year you have not already taken.

Please note that the requirement to take at least 120 CATS of level 4 modules (those with MA4** or PX4** codes) will be automatically satisfied. (You have already taken 40 CATS credits (Physics Laboratory 15, Group Project 15 and Maths Methods III 10. With the Project and the List A requirement you will have taken more than 120 credits of level 4 modules.)

With the introduction of the new credit framework in the third year, some of the material taught last year is being taught in new modules.

Load

Where options are taken, so that the load exceeds the normal load, the marks for all modules attempted will appear on your University transcript. The overall year mark will be calculated as the arithmetic mean of the subset of whole modules, weighted according to their credit weighting, which satisfies the course regulations and results in the highest mark.

Unusual Options

The modules listed above are the ones that you will normally be permitted to register for. If you wish to take an unusual option you should consult our document on unusual options prior to taking any such modules.
