Lei Kang

Dr. Lei Kang received his Master and PhD degree from the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), in 2006 and 2010, respectively. Since 2011, he has been working at HIT as a lecturer, teaching courses of “Fundamentals of Digital Electronic Technology” and “Digital Logic” bilingually for undergraduate students. From September 2012 to September 2013, he did research as an academic visitor at the Department of Physics, University of Warwick (UoW), supervised by Professor Steve Dixon. In September, 2014, he went to the University of Minnesota, United States, to study the teaching philosophy and pedagogy. In the same year, he became a postgraduate supervisor at HIT, and in December, 2015, he was hired as an associate professor there.


From 2004 to 2015, Dr. Lei Kang worked as the leader of EMAT Research Group, at Harbin Institute of Technology. He has published over 40 academic papers, and held 10 Chinese invention patents. In 2015, he was awarded the second prize of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress, by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. His research interests include: design of electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs), non-destructive testing and evaluation with EMATs, and guided wave tomography technique with EMATs, which finically supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, Railway Ministry of China, etc.


In 2016, Dr. Lei Kang was enrolled as the Marie Curie Research Fellow at the University of Warwick, and will begin his research on air-coupled transducers and their non-destructive evaluation technology from January 2016 to September 2017, with Professor Steve Dixon and the Ultrasonics Group of the Department of Physics.
