Background

I have done my undergraduation in Biological Sciences, in State University of Londrina (Universidade Estadual de Londrina, UEL, Parana, Brazil). The experiences I had there were diverse, from algae systematic and environmental analysis, to chondrichthyes phylogeny, with some time in Biology philosophy and even bats. The university itself is a good one, during my time there it was one of the 3 best in Biological Sciences from Brazil. It is known to teach their students with a more generic view in Biology. I might say that it is the main reason I always wanted to achieve a "specialization in generic knowledge".

After being BSc in Biological Sciences, I spent some time in Bimini - Bahamas, in Bimini Biological Field Station, for sharks research and marine biology. Also, I worked as a volunteer in a neurosciences lab, for Alzheimer disease, under the tutelage of Prof. Dr. Silvia Ponzoni, in State University of Londrina.

Right after that, I started working in Neurophysiology Laboratory under Prof. Dr. Luiz Eugenio A. M. Mello, in Federal University of Sao Paulo (Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo, Unifesp, Sao Paulo, Brazil), with Prof. Dr. Jair Guilherme dos Santos Junior. The research were related to neurogenesis, neuroplasticity, depression and drug addiction. I worked in this lab with Prof. Dr. Dartiu Xavier da Silveira, when we started a project with neuroplasticity and depression. During my time in that university, I had a course Introduction in Complex Systems, and it was then that I realised my ambition was somewhere else.

Others

I have a life outside study as well. My prefered way of locomotion is Bicycle, comes rain, snow or wind. Whenever I am thinking more than there are minutes in a day, I play my electric bass. Lately I am with a band called "The Fury", in Coventry, a mix of hardcore, grindcore and thrash metal. I like to draw whenever is possible (which means almost never), and play with Photoshop (although I could learn more about it). Sports include capoeira, skiing, scuba-diving, swimming, and whatever that includes water or adrenaline. Some other hobbies that dignify my geeky status aggregrate RPG, sci-fi movies (however, I also watch different genera), computer games, animes... the list is enormous. But as much as I am a geek, I balance it with drinks. Since I believe in Darwin's theory, I constantly challenge my neurons, with alcohol, to leave only the fittest in my brain.
