Our Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programmes provide a more industry-oriented doctorate than the traditional PhD and are supported by partner companies.
WMG carries out applied research under the themes of Design, Materials, Manufacturing, Systems and Business. Sectors include automotive, aerospace, construction, energy and utilities, the environment, finance, food and drink, healthcare technologies, and pharmaceutical.
The EngD is suitable for participants from a variety of backgrounds, from recent graduate to experienced manager. You may apply as an individual for one of our advertised projects put forward by our partner companies, or you may be sponsored by your employer to research a challenge identified within your own company or industry.
We currently offer three EngD programmes through our International Doctorate Centre for High Value, Low Environmental Impact Manufacturing, and our EPRSC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing.
All three programmes combine taught modules to bring students up to best industrial practice, with original research based on real world problems. By applying rigorous analysis, innovative thinking and good management practice you will stand out above your competitors.
Our EngD International qualification also offers the opportunity for an international placement and an embedded MSc as part of the programme.
Flexibility is a key advantage of an EngD. Your final submission will be in the form of a portfolio, rather than a single project, allowing for a broader range of knowledge and the ability to stay ahead of the game and fit the changing needs of industry.
You will work with supervisors who have both academic and industry expertise and experience.
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing
The centre is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and is a partnership between the Universities of Warwick, Exeter and Cranfield.
The International Doctorate Centre at WMG was launched in 2011 and was one of the first to offer the EngD International qualification, building on the pioneering Engineering Doctorate (EngD) established more than 20 years ago. Its focus is on High Value, Low Environmental Impact Manufacturing.
The Centre offers both the EngD International and the traditional EngD programme. For more information and available projects please click the link above.
