Information for applicants on the UK leaving the EU

Applicants and offer holders around the world will be aware of the recent "Brexit" referendum result in the UK. Whilst the result was in favour of British exit from the EU, the UK has not yet started the formal process of leaving. Once started, the exit process would take two years.

So offer holders for 2016 entry will not be affected by this vote. If you have been made an offer of a place to study for 2016/17 as a Home/EU student we will continue to set your fees at the relevant Home rate for the duration of your course. All 2016/17 offers will be honoured.

We do not envisage any change in visa requirements for 2016 entry, either for home/EU or overseas students. We do not yet have information on what immigration changes might be introduced in the future.

You can read the full University statement on Brexit here. If you have any concerns or questions, then do please contact us.

New Course for 2016 with GCHQ Provisional Certification

The Cyber Security Engineering course is designed to develop cyber security expertise for tomorrow's cyber thought leaders and senior practitioners. It achieves this by developing critical thinking in today's cyber domain with cyber research skills to anticipate future trends. Some aspects of the course deal with board level issues, others with operational matters. Overall, the student should comprehend a vertical slice through an enterprise; from influencing the risk appetite of the board, to managing firewall reconfiguration during a cyber attack.

Successful students will be able to engage in substantial and sustained cyber research, individually developed and demonstrated via their project/dissertation on a cybersecurity topic relevant to their planned career. The added value on this course comes from the wide range of external experts used in the delivery of the teaching experience. Students will be able to take both abstract academic concepts and concrete learning experiences, and place these in realistic commercial, industrial or public sector contexts.

This course takes a broad view of cyber security with a range of perspectives offered. The human experience of cyber, the individual within various organisation constructs, cyber technology, and the influence of cyber on the physical environment are all considered. However, Cyber Security Engineering is intended to offer a technically oriented pathway, complementary to the MSc Cyber Security Management which is perceived as being at the 'soft' end of the cyber spectrum.
