Warwick IFP - Computer Science - Academic Taster Session

Date Tue, 04 Jun
Location Online - MS Teams

Prospective students can experience what it is like being a student on the Warwick International Foundation Programme through one of our Academic taster sessions. The live webinars will be delivered by tutors who teach on the programme, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions about Warwick, the IFP courses and modules in general.

Hear from Dr. Joe Alcantara, on the topic: "Recall is always watching: is AI a helpful assistant or an Orwellian Nightmare?" Microsoft Recall is a feature that ‘keeps track of everything you see and do on your computer and, in return, gives you the ability to search and retrieve anything you’ve done on the device’. Where is the line between helpful and harmful with this new technology? As technology becomes an increasing part of our every day lives, it is crucial that we evaluate risks of this and other software. In this talk, we discuss the Microsoft Recall feature and its pros and cons, as well as think about other areas of computer science where ethics need to be considered. Dr. Alcantara will also provide more information about the course and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. It is relevant for those interested in the IFP Computer Science or Physics and Engineering courses.

Frequently asked questions

What are live chats?

Live chats give you the opportunity to speak with staff and hear from current students from the Education programme in real time. Live chats are open to all, and enable prospective students from the UK or overseas to enquire or ask questions.

Who am I messaging?

Each chat will be administered by an academic or administrative member of the Education Studies team.

At the beginning of each live chat, the members of the chat will introduce themselves so that you know who you are talking with.

What questions should I ask?

All questions will be answered, so feel free to ask anything - what to write in your application; what modules and subjects you can study; what societies there are; what opportunities for study abroad there are etc.

What if I can't make the chat?

After our live chats, we will make the transcripts of the sessions available so that you can catch up with our conversations. We also welcome you to come and visit us at a time that suits you.

If you have a specific question or would like to arrange a visit to the department, please feel free to email us at educationstudies at warwick dot ac dot uk

We look forward to speaking with you soon!
