Acknowledgements

The Warwick Institute for Employment Research would like to thank the following:

  • Department for Education and Skills (Access to Learning for Adults Division) for funding this phase of the website development
  • International Centre for Guidance Studies, University of Derby who were partners with the Warwick Institute for Employment Research in the website development
  • The KnowNet website development team
  • Dr Deirdre Hughes who worked with the Warwick Institute for Employment Research to secure sponsorship, practitioner, manager and policymaker involvement in the website development

Particular thanks go to all those individuals who contributed to the development of the website content. The practitioners, managers, researchers, trainers, policy makers and representatives of professional associations were pivotal in bringing the Website to fruition.

Particular thanks to the Institute of Career Guidance (now known as the Career Development Institute (CDI) for their practical support to the project.

Special thanks:

The above formal acknowledgement of DfES gives insufficient credit to the particular debt we owe to Millar MacDonald and Jenny Wallis. We had been working on developing prototype interactive websites for some time and felt that if the vision was broad enough then we could build a valuable resource for the whole guidance community. Having a vision is one thing - putting your faith in the vision of others is another. We pay tribute to that initial support and trust, when for long periods there was no sign of a visible product.
