  • average earnings are £53,000 per annum, which is biased as salary levels are high in London
  • 53% of the workforce are female
  • females dominate administrative, sales or customer service roles (approximately 75%)
  • less than a third of all manages and proprietors are female
  • one in 8 professionals and technical staff are female
  • the sector is dominated by older people
  • 138,400 people working in the sector are aged 16-24 years, 669,900 25-44 years, 207,000 45-54 years and 84,300 54 years plus
  • a large number of the workforce have a Level 3 qualification, whilst a larger number have a Level 4 or higher qualification
  • there are significantly more people in financial services in the region working full-time than part-time, plus employed people than self employed – this is representative of the entire sector
  • there is a lack of qualified managers and senior managers
