LLB and Postgraduate Degree (U. Externado de Colombia), LLM in Commercial and Corporate Law - Distinction (Queen Mary, University of London) and PhD student (U. of Warwick). Ligia Catherine specialises in the study of financial derivatives market and regulatory changes in the UK and the US. Currently, she is conducting her doctoral research at University of Warwick under the supervision of Professors Dr. Dalvinder Singh and Dr. Jonathan Garton. Her research is focused on three deficiencies identified during recent financial crises by regulators and derivatives market actors. They are: transparency and liquidity; risk management through the use legal documentation challenges in the ongoing changes of financial derivatives market and the enhancement of central counterparty clearing system.
She has been granted with several scholarships from Externado de Colombia University, Fundación para el Futuro de Colombia COLFUTURO and ECOPETROL S.A (Domestic Petroleum Company). Most recently the central bank of Colombia Banco de la República is sponsoring her PhD studies at University of Warwick.
Additionally, Ligia Catherine has been lecturer of Commercial Law, Financial Law and Investment Arbitration within different undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Externado de Colombia University. Currently, she is assistant lecturer of the Financial Services Seminar at School of Law- University of Warwick.
Several of her research articles have been published in Colombian and Canadian Law Journals E-mercatori@, Revista Derecho Privado- U.Externado and Banking and Finance Law Review (Canada) BFLR.
She is Registered Independent Expert - Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation of the European Commission and Member of the IMF Research Network- University of Warwick.
