Cyber Security Operations Centre begins full range of activity

CSOC

The Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC), which is based at GCHQ in Cheltenham, was 'stood up' in September 2009 and began full operations on 10 March 2010. The organisation has nineteen staff and is co-located with GCHQ rather than being a part of it. It is administered by the Office of Cyber Security in the Cabinet Office and consists of staff contributed by a range of organisations that work together on activity designed to counter hacking. Although CSOC's role is primarily defensive it will also be capable of launching a cyber attack. The creation of CSOC by the UK in part reflects the growing interest of the Obama adminstration in cyber threats.
