Luke Bantock is a PhD student in International Political Economy. He studied at the University of Warwick for a BA in Politics and International Studies and a received a departmental scholarship to study an MA in International Political Economy also at the University of Warwick.

Financialisation and Cashless Electronic Welfare Transfers: A study of Australia and South Africa

This research investigates the emergence of cashless welfare transfers, focusing on the examples of the cashless debit card in Australia and biometric grant card in South Africa. The project, funded by an ESRC studentship, explores the reasons for this policy evolution, its specific national forms and the interaction with financial organisations, and the impact it has at an everyday level for recipients.
