MA International Security 2014
I decided to undertake the MA in International Security at Warwick because of the excellent reputation PAIS has internationally. Additionally, the modules available to PAIS Masters students are extremely varied, interesting and highly relevant in light of contemporary international security issues. This has allowed me to tailor my Masters programme to suit both my personal interests and career aspirations.
My favourite aspect of studying with PAIS is the international character of the department, which is enhanced by having so many international students as classmates. This provides an academic and social boon and has allowed me to build friendships with students from other cultures, each of whom brings something different to the table during seminars. Another area where PAIS excels is in the support it offers to its Masters students. Having returned to education after three years in the Royal Navy, I was anxious that it would be difficult to get back into the swing of university life. However, at each stage of the course, the department has made clear exactly what is required of its students in order for us to achieve top marks in assessments. Before each essay, tutors within PAIS are happy to discuss assessments in dedicated personal meetings and they additionally offer detailed feedback on work completed.
Within the department contemporarily relevant optional seminars are offered on a weekly basis from respected visiting academics, and students are also encouraged to undertake paid research alongside PAIS academics. Personally I have been afforded the opportunity to assist Dr. Oz Hassan with his study of democracy promotion in the Middle East, something that has been extremely beneficial in developing my personal research and analytical skills.
