Our MA programmes are flexible and allow you to customise your degree programme according to your interests and career goals. In addition to your core module(s), you have free choice of modules within our department to make up your total of 120 taught CATS (credits), subject to module availability and timetabling. Each MA programme has a selection of suggested optional modules that naturally cluster around its relevant topic but you are not restricted to taking only these options.
It is also possible to take up to 40 CATS from outside of PAIS in other Social Sciences or Humanities departments, subject to CATS weighting, relevance to your degree programme, and availability with the external department. If you would like to take a module from Law or Sociology, PAIS has pre-existing exchange agreements on several modules. Please note that it is not currently possible to undertake any modules from Economics due to their MSc course structure and module CATS weightings.
