This notable achievement is yet another League Table success for the Department, which recognises its developing academic reputation, quality of teaching and outstanding research provision.

NSS 2020: Excellent Results for Philosophy

We are delighted to announce excellent student feedback in the 2020 National Student Survey (NSS). Notably, the Philosophy BA course received 100% overall satisfaction. We also celebrate strong scores across Philosophy courses (including PPE), particularly in the areas of Teaching Assessment, Feedback, Academic Support and Student Voice, all of which demonstrate a very high level of satisfaction.

Top Ten Placement for the Department of Philosophy in The Complete University Guide Subject League Table 2021

The Philosophy Department has repeated its strong performance from last year, and features again in the Top Ten rankings for UK philosophy courses, published by The Complete University Guide for 2021. The Department receives consistently high weightings across a range of categories, including Student Satisfaction, Research Quality and Intensity, and Graduate Prospects.

Professor Kimberley Brownlee Will Deliver the 2019 Julius Stone Address at Sydney Law School, Australia

Professor Kimberley Brownlee will deliver the prestigious Julius Stone Address 2019 at the Julius Stone Institute of Jurisprudence, Sydney Law School, University of Sydney, on Tuesday 13 August 2019. Her Address is entitled 'Punishment and Precious Emotions: A Defence of a Hope Standard for Punishment'.

The Julius Stone Address, inaugurated in 2000, is an annual lecture given by a leading international scholar of jurisprudence and held at the Julius Stone Institute of Jurisprudence, which was opened in 1999 in recognition of the achievements of Julius Stone, who was Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law at the University of Sydney between 1942 and 1972.
