Article 26 Conference 2017

4th-6th September 2017

Article 26 is a project of the Helena Kennedy Foundation. The main aim of Article 26 is to promote access to Higher Education for people who have fled persecution and sought asylum in the UK. Every year a UK higher education institution hosts the Article 26 conference. This brings together sanctuary scholars and those who support them. This year, at the University of Warwick, we have added a third day for sharing research into access to higher education for forced migrants. Find more information below and on the links to the right and above.

Day 1: Sanctuary Scholar's day

If you are a sanctuary scholar you will be provided with accommodation on 3rd and 4th September on the Warwick campus. The 4th will then involve a one day conference just for you with workshops on a range of topics which are relevant to your study and onward career. The registration fee is £175 and includes all accommodation and meals. Your university should cover this as well as your travel expenses.

Day 2: Administrator's day

Do you support sanctuary scholars? Do you manage admissions, bursaries, or immigration policy? This day is for all administrators with responsibility for welcoming and supporting sanctuary scholars. Perhaps you struggle with some of the basic rules, are concerned with conforming to Home Office immigration rules, are unsure whether scholarships should be extended to asylum seekers or refugees, one or the other. Day two will be an informative and educational day to discuss any questions or concerns that you have. The charge for this day is £50 which includes lunch and refreshments.

Day 3: Academic symposium

Day three will bring together academics who work on topics related to the work of Article 26. The title for the day is 'Forced Migrants in Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities for Visibility and Participation'. We are hoping for an in depth discussion which may lead to future collaboration. Abstracts have been received and speakers selected but if you would like to come and take part without presenting then feel free to register. The fee for this day is £50 which includes lunch and refreshments.
