About Us

The Behavioural Science Group at WBS was founded in 2010, with the goal of linking theoretical and policy challenges in the social sciences with experimental methods and results drawn from the natural sciences. The interests of the group include behavioural and experimental economics, cognitive science, judgement and decision making, and the application of economic methods to social phenomena not generally included within economics. The group has a dedicated state-of-the-art research laboratory, completed in 2011. The group aims to continue its rapid expansion, with the aim of being an internationally leading hub for research in this field. The group works extensively with the public and private sectors.

The Behavioural Science group intends to be the biggest of its kind in Europe. The aim of the group is to help build a bridge between what people know, and what studies confirm about human behaviour, and the standard economic model. Its aim is to move to new methods for understanding aggregate behaviour, departing from those used by conventional economics, to take account of the behavioural factors which seem to be so important that they can no longer be ignored.

Research

Behavioural science brings together many disciplines to study human behaviour, such as psychology, economics, and biology. The interests of the group include behavioural and experimental economics, cognitive science, judgement and decision making, and the application of economic methods to social phenomena not traditionally included within economics. We examine these topics using quantitative methods, such as experiments, dataset analyses, modelling, and simulations.

Teaching

The group teaches a portfolio of courses, from undergraduate to masters, MBA and Executive Education courses; and welcomes outstanding potential PhD students and research fellows, from a wide range of disciplines.
