Join us at Coventry parkrun this Saturday, 9th September 2017

AngelaJoin us this weekend at the Coventry Parkrun!

Every weekend, about 500 people take part in Coventry Parkrun around the War Memorial Park. If you’re in the area this weekend, why not cheer on or join a very special crew in orange who are jogging, walking, and even pushing buggies around the park's 5k route?

The team are fundraising for the Warwick Cancer Research Centre and they are led by Angela Hands.

Angela, a Warwick student, sadly lost her mum to ovarian cancer. She's using the occasion of her 50th birthday to fundraise to help other cancer patients. She said:

I find it a funny coincidence that Warwick, a place where I studied, have set up a Cancer Research Centre and are doing groundbreaking research into ovarian cancer. Mum would say it was meant to be!

It's not just ovarian cancer either. One of their projects is investigating hair loss during chemotherapy, and research into a 'cool cap' to help reduce hair loss. Such an important issue.

I thought about it and realised I didn't want a party; I also didn't want any presents as I'm not a materialistic person and don't need anything, so I'm fundraising for the Cancer Research Centre instead. Friends are coming from all over to join me at this Saturday's park run, and I'd love for anyone else who can to run with us too. If you'd like an orange T shirt to run in, contact benefactors at warwick dot ac dot uk

Many of the people who do parkrun every week are cancer survivors and we all know that exercise helps to prevent cancer and heart disease. I’m hoping that others will see how excellent parkrun is, and do some more exercise themselves.

We hope you'll be able to join Angela & friends on Saturday!

If you can’t come along to cheer, why not sponsor Angela on JustGiving today?
