Warwick in Africa

Warwick in Africa ReportWe're getting ready for another year transforming maths and English teaching across Ghana, Tanzania and South Africa!

We’ve just recruited 67 talented Warwick students who will be spending their summer teaching in secondary school. Their impact will be felt by the 18,000 African learners who they will teach directly; improving exam results by an average of 76% and awakening ambition.

We’ll also be working with local African teachers with training and mentoring, helping to develop their skills to deliver professional teacher training in their own communities.

Through this we’ll be reaching teachers like Herminai in South Africa, who says:

“I find the conditions in school so difficult with classes of up to 100. The buildings are not looked after and some of the learners can’t even write their own name. It’s almost impossible to find good training like Warwick in Africa, this was the first time I have received training in 20 years!

I loved everything about the training, you provided me with an in depth knowledge of how to plan lessons to engage all learners and help with behavioural management. I was thinking about quitting teaching altogether but these workshops have encouraged me to keep going.”

Thank you to every donor and funder who makes this possible - we're dependent on charitable income and couldn't do it without you!
