Professor Peter Scott appointed as Director of the Warwick Institute of Advanced Study

Congratulations to Professor Peter Scott who will take up the role of Director of the Warwick Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) from 1 September 2017.

Professor Scott joined Warwick’s Department of Chemistry in 1997 as a Lecturer and has served in a variety of roles for the department and university. Peter is also the founder and scientific director of the Warwick spin-out Interface Polymers Ltd.

Peter was educated at Salford and Oxford and later undertook post-doctoral work at Universität Konstanz in Germany and Sussex University, holding a Royal Society European Research Fellowship and the Ramsay Memorial Fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Chair of the National Chemical Database Service Advisory Board.

He leads collaborative interdisciplinary research in two areas: the discovery of self-assembling molecules as antimicrobials and cancer medicines; interfacially-active polyolefin materials for industry.

The role of the Institute

The Warwick Institute of Advanced Study (IAS), established in 2007, is dedicated to enriching the University’s research environment by supporting Warwick academics, hosting a number of international visitors and enhancing the experience of postgraduate students and early career scholars.

Over the past decade, the IAS has become an integral part of Warwick, representing all faculties and departments, supporting collaboration across disciplines and representing us both nationally and internationally.

Since its foundation and the appointment of Professor Margot Finn as its first Director (2007 - 09), the Institute has supported innovative research and interdisciplinary collaborations across all our faculties. This mission was continued by subsequent directors Professors Hilary Marland (2009 - 11), Richard Aldrich (2011 - 14) and Giorgio Riello (2014 - 17). In the past few years, the IAS has expanded its postdoctoral community and widened engagement with a number of Warwick’s strategically important projects.
