'The Story of Children’s Television' nominated for Culture and Tourism Awards

The Story of Children’s Television from 1946 to Today, currently running at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, has been shortlisted in the ‘Culture Award’ and ‘Tourism Event of the Year’ categories. The highly interactive exhibition has been developed by staff at the museum in close collaboration with Warwick's Department of Film and Television Studies, as well as the BBC and Kaleidoscope, the classic television organisation.

Dr Rachel Moseley and Dr Helen Wheatley from our Department of Film and Television Studies have worked closely with museum curators to provide intellectual rigour and contemporary context to the exhibition. Visitor experiences and feedback will, in turn, feed into their exciting new research into the role children’s television plays in our experience and memory of childhood.

The exhibition is a celebration and exploration of children's television in Britain, and contains original material from some of the nation’s favourite children’s programmes, such as the original 1990s Tracy Island model created on Blue Peter, Gordon the Gopher from the Broom Cupboard, and the original puppets of Fingermouse, Rastamouse and Muffin the Mule.

The winners will be announced on 24 September at an awards ceremony in The Ricoh Arena.
