US has done everything North Korea wants: Dr Catherine Jones

Dr Catherine Jones, expert in East Asian politics from the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick, comments on the increasingly hostile relationship between the USA and North Korea:

"The US has been the best friend to North Korea in the last month. It has done everything the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) wants: it has given it recognition, a video clip of the US wanting to destroy them (which they have been claiming for the past 70 years), and the DPRK is beginning to look like the more rational actor in this.

"But, more importantly, there are millions of people in the DPRK struggling to survive, many in harsh conditions, living in fear and without sufficient means to survive. In all the media from the last month, and in the latest stance, these people's lives haven't been account for or even recognised."
