Dr Heribert Dieter

Heribert DieterHeribert Dieter, born 1961, studied political science and economics at the Free University of Berlin and at the Australian National University in Canberra. He holds a doctorate in economics and political science (Dr rer pol) from the Free University of Berlin, where he has been an adjunct professor (Privatdozent) since 2005.

He works as Senior Fellow in the Research Unit Global Issues at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, Berlin. Since 2000 he also has been Associate Fellow, Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation (CSGR), University of Warwick.

Dr Dieter has worked on a broad range of issues related to the development of the world economy. Specifically, he has written about regional integration in the Asia-Pacific, Africa and Central Asia as well as monetary regionalism. The international financial system has been another area of research.

His current research focus is on the further development of globalisation, the development of monetary regionalism in Asia and other parts of the world and on the future of the global trading system, which appears to be undermined by the mushrooming of bilateral trade agreements.
