Nexen Scholarships for Accounting and Finance students

The University has received generous financial support from Nexen Petroleum UK Limited who will be providing scholarships to help undergraduate students joining our Accounting and Finance degree in October 2016.

An additional scholarship of £3,000 per year for a maximum of 3 years is now available to UK resident students from low income backgrounds. For further information about the company, eligibility criteria and how to apply, please see below:

Who are Nexen Petroleum UK Limited?

Nexen is a Canadian based upstream oil and gas exploration and production company with a focus on production from conventional oil and gas, oil sands and shale gas. They have extensive operations within the UK, based in both Uxbridge and Aberdeen, as well as in Canada, the US Gulf of Mexico, Yemen and Columbia. Nexen also has non operated interests in Poland and Nigeria. As part of their commitment to support the communities within which they work, Nexen UK are offering a number of undergraduate scholarships to UK universities.

Who can apply for the Nexen scholarship?

To be eligible to apply for the Nexen Scholarship you must satisfy the following criteria:-

  • you have enrolled on the first year of an Accounting and Finance undergraduate degree course (UCAS code NN34) at the University of Warwick in October 2016. (Students who have enrolled in 2016 on an Accounting and Finance with Foundation year degree course (UCAS code: N4N4) will not be eligible to apply for a Nexen Scholarship until year 1 of your course in 2017.)
  • you come from a family with an income of less than £25,000 a year
  • you are ordinarily resident in the UK and eligible to pay fees at the Home rate
  • you have applied for student financial support from the Student Loans Company or Student Awards Agency for Scotland and are entitled to a Maintenance Loan.


How do I apply for a Nexen Scholarship?

What is the selection process?

A selection panel will meet in term 1 2016 to identify the successful candidate. The scholar will be selected on the basis of outstanding academic performance at A level and financial need. Information on A level grades will be provided to the University by UCAS. Information on family income will be provided by the Student Loans Company. In the event of many students achieving equally outstanding A level results, performance at GCSE level will be taken into account.

Please note that scholars will not be able to hold a Nexen Scholarship, a Multicultural Scholars' Programme award, an ICAEW scholarship, an EY scholarship and/ or a Lloyds Bank Scholarship simultaneously.

How will I be notified of the outcome of my application?

You will be notified of the outcome of your application by email. The recipient of the Nexen Scholarship will be required to sign an agreement, which will include the need to produce an annual progress report and to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress.

How will I be paid?

As long as you continue to do well in your academic studies, your award will be paid for each year of your course, subject to a maximum of 4 years. The Nexen scholarship will be paid by the University directly into your bank account in three termly instalments and will be paid in addition to any Warwick Bursary awarded via the Warwick Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries (Warwick USB) programme.
