Design courses and modules, taking advice where appropriate from the Student Admissions and Recruitment Office or LDC

Approve module proposals. Report list of new and amended modules to relevant Faculty Sub-Committee.

Carry out annual reviews of courses, write up report; Head of Department signs off report PVCs (Teaching and Learning) and (Postgraduate and Transnational Education) receive and review all Externals' reports. Reports are passed to departments for consideration and response Academic Convenor works with SSLC chair and secretary to ensure annual report is written and submitted, and follows up recommendations Consider and respond to reports
Faculty Undergraduate/ Graduate Studies Committees/Sub-Faculty of Science

Receive reports of new and amended modules from departments. Undertake audits of departmental module approval processes.
Recommend approval of new courses to BUGS/BGS.
Report list of recommended new courses to Faculty Board.

Consider Annual Course Review reports from departments within the Faculty; expedite issues raised; identify best practice and areas for improvement, and submit composite reports on these areas to BUGS/BGS.   SSLC Annual Reports are attached to Annual Course Review reports for consideration by these committees  
Faculty Boards Receive reports of new courses recommended for approval to BUGS/BGS.       Faculty engagements provide focus for thematic discussion.
Collaborative, Flexible and Distributed Learning Sub-Committee (CFDLSC)

Considers course and module proposals for collaborative courses and distance learning courses.
Recommends approval of new or extended teaching collaborations/partnerships to AQSC.
Recommends approval of new distance learning courses to BUGS or BGS.

Considers individual Annual Course Review reports for collaborative courses and distance learning courses, focusing on collaborative/DL elements. Considers individual External Examiners' reports for collaborative courses and distance learning courses, focusing on collaborative/DL elements.   May consider reports and departmental responses if any issues raised related to collaborations or DL provision.
Boards of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies (BUGS and BGS)

Consider and approve new course proposals from across the institution.
BUGS and BGS report lists of approved new and amended courses to AQSC.

Consider and approve Annual Course Review summaries from each faculty and raise issues of significant concern with AQSC. Consider individual External Examiners' reports along with departmental responses. Consider composite UG/PG SSLC report from across the institution. Consider reports and departmental responses from across the institution. Raise issues of significant concern with AQSC. Consider recommendations to the University relevant to BUGS and BGS.
SSLC Co-ordinators       Consider individual annual reports from all departments across all faculties, recommend areas to be followed-up by Faculty Board Secretariats. Major issues identified are reported back to the relevant Board of the Faculty and BUGS/BGS as appropriate.  
Academic Quality and Standards Committee (AQSC)

Considers new/amended teaching collaborations/partnerships and recommends approval to Senate.
Receives reports from BUGS and BGS listing new/amended courses approved by BUGS and BGS.
Reports lists of approved new and amended courses to Senate.

Considers issues of significant concern raised by BUGS and BGS. Reports to Senate on successful operation of Annual Course Review process.

   

Considers issues of significant concern raised by BUGS and BGS.

Consider recommendations to the University relevant to AQSC.

Senate Considers proposals for new collaborative courses on basis of recommendations from AQSC.
