This drawing was donated to the University by the artist in 2003. The Curator and the Curatorial Associate travelled to her studio in her home in Chiswick, bordering the Thames, to which she and her husband Julian Trevelyan had moved in 1949. Many paintings were available but we felt we would like a work that extended our audience's understanding of Fedden's work. She turned to a plan chest and brought out some drawings, including this one.

It dates from the late 1970s and contains many of the hallmarks of Fedden's art - the combination of landscape with familiar domestic objects, bold patterns and a sense of direct observation. The mug featured here belonged to Julian Trevelyan who died in 1988; he too was an artist and a constant source of support.
