General Information


What is the purpose and aim of the University Counselling Service? The service provides an opportunity for all staff [and students] to access professional therapeutic counselling so that they may better develop and fulfil their personal and professional potential. The service is available to all grades of staff. The Counselling Service does not charge staff a fee.

Counselling for staff is available in the face-to-face one-to-one format, therapy groups can be accessed by staff, as can our range of workshops specifically designed for staff.

Reception is staffed as follows:

 NB Trudy Haywood, the University Counsellilng Service Administrator, is currently available from 8.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday

*Counselling appointments are available into the evening (except during the vacation). An answer machine can record your message when the phone is not staffed. The Counselling Service runs during term time and vacation but is closed on Bank holidays and when the University is shut down (ie over the Christmas and Easter periods).

Directions: From University House, walk along Kirby Corner Road to the 2nd pedestrian crossing (with traffic lights), cross over the road, walk past bus stop, turn left following signs to 'Engineering Management Building and Arden and Car Park 13'. Walk approximately 70 paces to 'Westwood House' signposted 'Counselling Services' - the single storey building on your left. Head for the oval brickwork porchway and through entrance doors and the Counselling Service Reception is on your immediate left. Telephone 02476 523761 if you need further directions.

 
Car parking: the nearest car parks are car park 13 and 14. If these are full, please use the Sports Centre car park.
 
There are automatically-opening doors (eg for wheelchair access) during office hours. To enter after 5pm you will need to present your university ID card to the Card Reader panel.
 
Waiting room: There is a comfortable waiting area which is for use by people visiting the University Counselling Service only.
