Statutory Inspection Records

Departments are responsible for ensuring that their own equipment is listed on the statutory inspection register, whether this relates to local exhaust ventilation, relevant pressure systems, lifting equipment or lifting accessories, or bulk storage tanks such as liquid nitrogen. In order to help facilitate this, there is an Statutory Inspection Report Form which departmental representatives can either use the spreadsheet given in the right hand of this page and upload this to the form, or they can simply add an item using the Statutory Inspection Report Form.

The Estates Department hold the records relating to the inspections and testing for lifts, lifting equipment and lifting accessories (as required under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and for pressure systems and pressure vessels that are subject to a written scheme and test under the the Pressure Equipment Regulations and Simple Pressure Vessel (Safety) Regulations.

All lifting equipment that has been inspected, will be tagged to indicate that a formal examination has been carried out by the Insurer's engineers. Noticeboards in workshop areas will indicate the colour for tags for inspection period. These will indicate the colour for the tags for the current inspection period. If the equipment does not possess the correct coloured tag, then it should be removed from service and quarantined until a formal examination by Zurich has been carried out. The responsibility for checking and removing items from service rests with the Department who owns the equipment.

Statutory inspection records for lifting equipment and pressure systems are held by Zurich on their system CRIMSON.

In addition, the Estates Department manage contracts with competent contractors who inspect and test local exhaust ventilation (LEV) as required under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.

Whilst the Estates Department manage contracts with competent contractors to conduct the inspection and testing under the above regulations, not all of the recommendations made will fall to the Estates Department to complete. Any equipment that is Departmental owned will require the Department to take action post the inspection. A cost code will be required by the Estates Department for any remedial work involving non infrastructure repairs.
