Open applications may stop after connecting to the VPN Network Service

When connecting to the VPN Network Service, all network connections will become severed for a few seconds. This means that applications which rely on a persistent network connection (e.g., instant messaging programs, file transfer programs, remote access applications - SSH/telnet/RDP) may lose their connection and these applications may need to be manually reconnected or restarted. This happens because the VPN connection changes your computer's IP address that you are connecting from.

It is recommended that you close any open applications prior to connecting or disconnecting from the VPN Network Service.
