James Farnhill – PMO Service Owner

James is a goal-oriented project and programme manager with over twenty years project management experience. He has a strong background in structured project and programme methodologies and a proven track record in delivering projects and programmes worth up to £10 million.

James heads up the Project Management Office, managing a team of internal and contract project managers and project support staff. He manages a portfolio of projects whilst building up the PMO to be a centre of excellence for project management within the University, offering best practice advice and tools to other project managers in the University.

Prior to joining the University James worked as a Programme Manager at JISC, which funded programmes to enhance the use of technology in higher education. Previously, he has worked in a variety of project and programme manager posts in the commercial sector from startups to FTSE 100 companies.

James is a PRINCE2 and MSP practitioner and has a Foundation Certificate in Agile Project Management from the British Computer Society.

In his spare time James is a keen cyclist, embracing his inner MAMIL (Middle Aged Man In Lycra) to compete in cycling events and keep active every day.

Kim Dalziel - Senior Project Manager

Kim became a permanent member of the Project Management Office in January 2014 following several years of being a Project Management contractor at the University. Kim has experience of managing University-wide projects such as the outsourcing of email and a new paperless admissions process for potential students.

Before Warwick Kim worked at a senior level in a number of sectors such as telecommunications, finance, corporate organisations, government departments and local authorities.  Kim has over 20 years’ experience of successful project, programme and line management and specialises in leading significant programmes of change.

Kim has a Masters Degree in International Business Management, is a Prince 2 Practitioner and has completed the Agile Project Management Foundation course from the British Computer Society.

Outside of work Kim enjoys spending time with her two children, swimming and reading novels.

Gillian Lane – Senior Project Manager

Gillian joined the University in 2012 and has managed a variety of University-wide projects, both corporate and technical. She is currently the Programme Manager for Working@Warwick – a series of projects designed to transform the way colleagues interact with the University to enable a culture of collaboration, create better ways of working to empower colleagues and support the University’s strategic goals to be a world-class Higher Education force.

Gillian’s previous projects included introducing a research administration system, the relocation of campus data centre servers with minimal service disruption into modern facilities, an online Student Assignment Management system and installation of wireless connectivity in some of Warwick’s older student residences.

Gillian has a background in programme and project management with experience gained from working on projects worth up to £325 million. She has led teams of up to 85 staff in a variety of customer services and professional services roles.

Gillian is a registered PRINCE2 practitioner.

When not at work Gillian likes to travel, in particular to warmer climes such as Antigua, in order to spend time with family and friends.

Helen Anderson – Project Manager

Originally from a programming background, Helen specialises in difficult projects and recovering those that have become troubled.

Helen joined the University in September 2014 and is currently managing the replacement of analogue and VoIP telephony with a converged solution. This has involved leading the project team through tendering, evaluation & selection of supplier and contract negotiations, development of the solution with the supplier and implementation & roll-out of the solution in a complex environment.

Before joining Warwick Helen worked in local government specialising in business process improvement, recovering projects that had gone off track and improving business relationships.

Helen is a registered PRINCE2 and MSP registered practitioner and also has a Foundation Certificate in Agile from the British Computer Society.

Outside of work Helen leads the Sunday School at her local church.

Louise Goodyear – Project Manager

Louise joined the University as a Project Manager in December 2014 and has managed the introduction of a web-based portfolio for medical students in Warwick Medical School, an improved exam marking system for Engineering and helped to centralise the use of exam grids for Statistics.

Before joining Warwick Louise worked for CU Services Ltd, a commercial subsidiary of Coventry University, helping professional staff and academics across the University Group to generate income through professional learning and development. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer Louise contributed to the company’s business plan and developed a process to measure and monitor goals. Louise also worked at Fujitsu Telecommunications (FTEL) Europe Ltd for several years as a Project Delivery Manager, managing multiple infrastructure roll-outs across the UK for AOL, BT and TfL.

Louise is a registered PRINCE2 and MSP registered practitioner, has a Foundation Certificate in Agile from the British Computer Society and the CMI Change Management Certificate (2015).

In her spare time Louise practises yoga.

Tarnbir Athwal - Project Manager

Tarny is our newest member of the team, having joined the University from NHS Coventry and Warwickshire in June 2017. Whilst employed by the NHS he completed an upgrade of the Patient Access System, a complex project which affected 6000 users across 2 sites, and also managed the rollout of a new mobile device management solution across 60 sites, which also had some crossover with a separate VOIP System rollout.

Highly skilled in Microsoft Project and Excel, Tarny is also an excellent communicator.

Tarny is a Prince 2 Practitioner.

When not at work Tarny enjoys keeping himself in shape by running, playing several sports and visiting the gym 5 days a week.

Jane Hampson – Project Support Officer

Jane is the part-time Project Support Officer for the PMO team based in IT Services. Her role includes minute taking at the monthly ITPPRB meetings, maintaining the PMO web pages and organising Project Management network events. Jane spends the remainder of her working week running two small charities from home.

Prior to joining the PMO team in 2012 Jane worked as an Officer Manager for a conservation charity where her role encompassed human resources, finance and communicating with the press.

To relax at the weekend Jane loves taking her dog Florence on long country walks and spending time in the garden.
