What is the masthead?

The masthead contains the utility bar, the Warwick logotype, links to the main sections of the Warwick site (Study, Research, Business, Alumni, News and About), a search box and the site title. The masthead layout is identical across every site.

Diagram showing elements in the masthead

The utility bar (the thin strip at the top of the screen containing sign-in, edit and other utility links) and the window device are transparent. The image behind the utility bar and window device shows through. The image can vary for individual sites. The image must tie in with the page borders and site colour palette, and provide sufficient contrast for the utility links and window device to display clearly. Avoid detailed or distracting imagery.

The word ‘WARWICK’ in the logotype is a solid colour. This colour can vary per site.

Unbranded or co-branded websites

For websites which do not primarily represent Warwick, or where Warwick is a partner with other organisations, you can vary the usage of the logotype in the masthead. You must agree any variations with the External Affairs team before starting website design.
