How disabling TLS 1.0 on Warwick web applications affects Android devices

From 23 May 2017 onwards, we will disable the TLS 1.0 encryption protocol across the University's web services. Disabling TLS 1.0 prevents it from being used to access Warwick websites via an insecure web browser or application. We're making this change to keep the University's websites safe and secure.

However, this means you won't be able to access parts of the website using the stock Android Browser on devices running Android 4.4 or older.

Where possible, we recommend you upgrade your Android operating system to a newer version. Alternatively, please install and use a modern browser via the Google Play Store e.g. Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

This table shows how disabling TLS 1.0 will impact you, depending on the browser you use to access the University's websites, and the recommended action to take:

Browser Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or newer Android 4.4 (KitKat) or older
Android Browser No impact Upgrade Android operating system, or use Chrome or Firefox
Chrome No impact No impact
Firefox No impact No impact
