How disabling TLS 1.0 on Warwick web applications affects Windows Phone

From 23 May 2017 onwards, we will disable the TLS 1.0 encryption protocol across the University's web services. Disabling TLS 1.0 prevents it from being used to access Warwick websites via an insecure web browser or application. We're making this change to keep the University's websites safe and secure.

However, this means you won't be able to access parts of the website on using IE (Internet Explorer) Mobile version 10 or older on a Windows Phone.

We recommend you update your Windows Phone software to a more recent version – either:

  • Windows 10 Mobile, which includes the Microsoft Edge browser
  • Windows Phone 8.1, which includes IE Mobile 11

This table shows how disabling TLS 1.0 will affect you, depending on your browser, and the recommended action to take:

Browser Operating system Impact
Microsoft Edge Windows 10 Mobile No impact
IE Mobile 11 Windows Phone 8.1 No impact
IE Mobile 10 or older Windows Phone 8 Update operating system to a newer version
