You can display alternative versions of content to different groups of people within the same page by using personalisation tags. For example, you could show important messages on your home page specific to students and a different set of messages tailored to staff.
Note: Most personalisation settings rely on a person being signed in to warwick.ac.uk. Often, people visiting your page may not be signed in. In such cases, SiteBuilder doesn't know anything about their identity, hence they fall into the ‘anonymous’ group. Keep this in mind when restricting important content.
Note: to control who can view an entire page, rather than sections within a page, use page permissions instead.
You can add any number of personalised sections to a page and make each section visible to any one of the following groups:
- Students in a particular year of study
- Anonymous (i.e. anyone not signed in)
- A web group
- Members of a department
- Page contributors
- Page editors
- Page admins
It's possible to specify the inverse of each of the above groups. For example, you can make a section of a page visible to everyone who is not anonymous. This option is useful if you want to create a ‘Warwick members only’ section within a public-facing page.
How to insert personalised content
- Browse to the page where you want to add content for a specific group of people.
- Go to Edit > Edit centre content (or Edit right content).
- In the content editor, place your cursor where you want to add the personalised content.
- In the toolbar, select Insert a… > Personalised content.
In the Insert personalised content window, select the group you want to display your content to:
Select the Insert button. Text similar to the following is displayed in the content editor:

- Put the content you want to display to this group between the tags.
- When you have finished editing the page, select the Publish button in the toolbar.
