How do I export a calendar page to iCalendar format?

iCalendar is a file format that enables you to share calendar data in a common format. SiteBuilder's calendar page template supports this format. You can export the data from SiteBuilder and import it to an application that supports the iCalendar format – for example, Apple Calendar (formerly iCal), Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook.

There are two ways to export the calendar data:

  • Download the iCalendar file – this is a snapshot of the calendar at a particular time. When you import the file to another calendar application, the data does not synchronise with the SiteBuilder calendar.
  • Copy the iCalendar URL – and subscribe to it in your preferred calendar application. The data remains synchronised with SiteBuilder and updates periodically, depending on your calendar application's settings.

Download iCalendar file

  1. Go to the calendar page in SiteBuilder.
  2. Select the tag checkboxes for the event types you wish to include in the iCalendar file, then click Show selected:

    Select event tags to include

  3. Click the iCalendar link beneath the calendar.
  4. At the prompt, save the iCalendar file to your computer (it has the extension ICS):

    Save iCalendar file

  5. Go to your preferred calendar application and import the iCalendar file.

Example: import iCalendar file to Microsoft Outlook 2016 (Windows)

  1. Go to File > Open > Import.
  2. Browse to the iCalendar file on your computer and select the OK button.
  3. Choose from the following options:

    • Open as New – the file opens as a separate calendar beside the Personal Exchange Calendar.
    • Import – the calendar data merges with your current calendar.

Copy iCalendar URL

  1. Go to the calendar page in SiteBuilder.
  2. Select the tag checkboxes for the event types you wish to include, then click Show selected:

    Select event tags to include

  3. Right-click the iCalendar link and copy the link address (URL).
  4. Go to your calendar application and subscribe to a new calendar by pasting the URL.

Example 1: subscribe to iCalendar in Apple Calendar (iOS)

  2. On the Add Account screen, select Other.
  3. Select Add Subscribed Calendar.
