Application Delivery Service Proposed Activities

Release Windows 10 to staff.

  • Description: All new Managed Windows desktops should be installed with Windows 10 build from January. We may retro-fit to relatively new computers providing that a driver pack for Windows 10 exists
  • Justification: Windows 7 is EOL in Jan 2020 and new hardware using the seventh generation KabyLake processor will not support Windows 7.
  • Current status: Not yet started

Provide a Windows 10 version of the Teaching image

  • Description: Create a Teaching image using Windows 10 as the base OS
  • Justification: We need to have a Windows 10 version of the Teaching build available before Windows 7 goes EOL in January 2020
  • Current status: Not yet started

Monitor application usage of central applications using SCCM

  • Description: Use SCCM to monitor application usage. Make reports available to licensing manager
  • Justification: Request from licensing manager to monitior usage
  • Current status: Not yet started

  • Estimated staff allocation: 0.3FTE
  • Priority: Low

Provide a VDI solution for Engineering

  • Description: Use VMware to provide a virtual Engineering desktop for Engineering students
  • Justification: Engineering need to provide more 'workatation' access to their students and do not have the capacity in term of space and physical computers. This will be funded by Engineering
  • Current status: POC available. Hardware being purchased
  • Estimated timescale: Unknown
