Russia's struggle

These tinted slides illustrated a talk on the revolutionary 'struggle' against the Tsarist regime, and the upheavals of the October Revolution and Russian Civil War. They include photographs of revolution, the Red Army, and destruction as a result of war, as well as portraits of leading figures. Slides for a companion lecture on 'Russia's labours' (on the lives of ordinary Russians in the new Soviet society) are also available.

Most of the slides were produced by the Victor Animatograph Company of Davenport, Iowa, USA (some as part of the Hillis "Better America" Lecture Series), and were ironically probably intended for use in anti-Bolshevik lectures in the United States during the 1920s. It is likely that Henry Sara purchased them during his 1922 lecture tour of the USA, where he spoke on behalf of the Friends of Soviet Russia. An advertisement for "Communist Party. Lantern lecture by Henry Sara. "Russia's Struggle"" is included in the Dundee Evening Telegraph of 1 March 1923.

Reproduction for any purpose (publication, exhibition, web display, commercial use, etc.) is only permissible with the consent of the Modern Records Centre. Please contact us for more information.
