Importing references

The following instructions provide guidance on how to transfer references from the selected database to EndNote online. Please be aware that you may need to adapt the instructions depending on the browser you are using.

We also advise that you check the references that you have added to EndNote as it may be necessary to edit the references, For example, volume, issue and page numbers may be in the wrong place or may be missing.

Cochrane Library Mark desired references or Select All > Click Export Selected or Export All > Select the appropriate options for the Export and File types > Export Citation and save the file. > Import file with filter Cochrane Library (Wiley).
EBSCO databases Mark desired references by selecting the blue folder icon > Click on Folder View on the right-hand side > Click the checkbox to Select/deselect all > Click Export > Select Direct export to EndNote Web > Click SaveNote: If Direct export to EndNote Web doesn't work > Select Direct Export in RIS Format > This will generate a file. There is no need to open it but you may need to save it depending on your browser > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option
EI Engineering Village Mark desired references > Click on drop-down arrow by Save to PC > Select the EndNote option > Click Save to download the file > Open your EndNote Online account > Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import filter.
ERIC Via OCLC: Mark desired references > Click Export > Select Export to EndNote > This will generate a file. There is no need to open it but you may need to save it depending on your browser > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select EndNote Import as the import option.Via EBSCO: See EBSCO databases instructions

Electronic Journals Save your selected references. You may need to look for the option to Export or Download Citations. In EndNote, go to Collect > Import References > Select File > From the Import Option drop down box, select either the EndNote Import or RefMan RIS option > Choose which group to add the references to > Import. If the import fails, try the other filter.

Emerald Mark the desired references > From the drop down Select From box choose Download Citation > Select EndNote and make sure that the Direct Import box is ticked > Click Download article citation data > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select EndNote Import as the import option
Library Search To export references from Library Search you will need to use the ‘Online search’ option from within EndNote. Please refer to the EndNote Online Guide for instructions.
Engineering Village Mark desired references > Click Download > Select Format EndNote RIS, Ref. Manager) > This will generate a file. There is no need to open it but you may need to save it depending on your browser > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option.

Google Scholar To export a single reference: From Settings, select EndNote from the Bibliography Manager box > Run search and click on Import into EndNote link next to the reference > Save the file > Open your EndNote Online account > Collect > Import references > Select EndNote Import as the import filter.

To export multiple references: Sign into your Google account. Run a search > Click Save under each reference for each reference you want to export > Click on My Library on the left hand side of the screen > Select the references you want to export, click the download button and choose the Endnote option > Open your EndNote Online account > Collect > Import references > Select EndNote Import as the import filter
IEEE Mark desired references > Select Download Citation > select the RIS format > Click Download > Open your EndNote Online account > Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import filter.
Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals Mark desired references > Click Export> Select EndNote from the Export To box> Select the option for Complete Reference>Click Export Citations.If this does not work try: Mark desired references > Click Export> Select Reprint/Medlars from the Export To box> Select the option for Complete Reference>Click Export Citations> Save as a text file and import into EndNote Online using the Wilson Legal Index (OvidSP) filter.
Ingenta There is no option to mark the desired references without creating an Ingenta account and adding selected references to Favourites.To download a page of references, click Export Options under Tools > EndNote > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import References > Select RefMAN RIS as the import option.If you want to select specific references, create an Ingenta Profile. Click Add to Favourites. Go to My Profile > Favourites > Export Options > EndNote > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import References > Select RefMAN RIS as the import option.

JSTOR Mark desired references > Click Export Selected Citations > Click on Export a RIS file > Save file > Import file with filter JSTOR.

Mark desired references > Click Export> Select Reprint/Medlars from the Export To box> Select the option for Complete Reference>Click Export Citations> Save as a text file and import into EndNote Online using the appropriate database filter.
Oxford Mark the desired references > Select Download to Citation Manager > Click Go > Click Download all selected references to citation manager > Select EndNote > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select EndNote Import as the import option
Project MUSE Select desired reference > Click Save citation > Go to Saved Citations > Select Option 2 Export to EndNote > This will generate a file. There is no need to open it but you may need to save it depending on your browser > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option.
ProQuest databases Mark desired references > From the Save link select the RIS (works with EndNote, Citavi, etc.) option > Click Continue > This will generate a file. There is no need to open it but you may need to save it depending on your browser > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option.

Pubmed Mark desired references > From the Send To option select Citation manager as the destination > Create File. Save the file and import it using the Pubmed (NLM) filter.If you want to transfer all references, from the Send To option select File and change the Format box to Medline > Create File. Save the file and import it using the Pubmed (NLM) filter.If you have too many references to transfer in one go, from the Send To option select Citation Manager > Select the number of references to send (200 references max.) and the reference number to start from (for the first batch, reference 1, for the next batch, reference 201, etc.) > Create File. Save the file and import it using the Pubmed (NLM) filter.
Then send the next batch of references.
Sage Premier Tick boxes for desired references > Click ADD citations button > Click Save/Print/Email/Download > Click Download to Citation Manager > Click EndNote link on the right > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select EndNote Import as the import option.
Science Direct Mark desired references > Click Export > Select the options for Citations and Abstract and RIS format (for Reference Manager, Procite, EndNote) > Click Export > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option.
Scopus Mark desired references > Click Export > Select the options for RIS format (EndNote, References Manager) and Citation information only > Click Export > This will generate a file. There is no need to open it but you may need to save it depending on your browser > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option.
Sociological Abstracts See ProQuest database instructions
Springer Click on the Title of the desired reference > Click Export citation > Click .ENW EndNote > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select EndNote Import as the import option.
Taylor and Francis Online Select desired article > Click Download citation > Select RIS for EndNote format > This will generate a file. There is no need to open it but you may need to save it depending on your browser > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option.
Web of Science Sign in to Web of Science using your EndNote login details > Mark desired references > Click Save to EndNote Online.
Westlaw Select the Journals section > Mark the desired records > Click on Envelope icon and select Export to EndNote> Select Export abstracts only > Click Submit > Open your EndNote Online account > Click Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import option.
Wiley Mark desired references > Select Export Citation > select the EndNote format > Click Submit > Open your EndNote Online account > Collect > Import references > Select RefMan RIS as the import filter.

Zetoc Tick boxes for desired records > Click Download > Select Short labels and Just tagged records and Save the file > Import file with filter Zetoc (MIMAS).
