Resources for different legal topics

Lexis Library and Westlaw contain much useful material on Law in Context. To find extra comment, it is often useful to use one or more databases relating to another discipline.

Select from the topics below for relevant sources and guidance.

General law

Please see the list of the main databases recommended via the Library website link to Law Databases. Lexis Library and Westlaw are the two best Law databases available at Warwick. To find more Law journal articles, The Index to Legal Periodicals and Books, HeinOnline and JSTOR are also especially recommended.

Business and Economics

For commercial and economic aspects of Law, see the lists of recommended journal collections for Business and Economics via the Library’s link to Databases. ABI/Inform and Business Source Complete are useful sources for additional comment in either field, plus EconLit for Economics articles.

Literature

For the Law and Literature module, English and Comparative Literature databases are recommended, especially the British Humanities Index, Project Muse and Literature Online. Early English law books may be found in Early English Books Online and Eighteenth Century Collections Online. There are also specialist databases relating to the works of Shakespeare.

Politics and Sociology

Especially for Child and Family Law, Criminology, Gender Law, Islamic Law, Refugee Law and the social theory of Law, Sociology databases are recommended. Particular recommendations are Applied Social Science Index and Abstracts, the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences and Sociological Abstracts.

For Constitutional Law, Human Rights, International Law and EU Law, the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences is also recommended, plus International Political Science Abstracts and Worldwide Political Science Abstracts. Project Muse is a useful additional source for developing countries’ issues and customary law.

Science, Environment and Medicine

For topics such as Medical Law, Environmental Law or the Law of the Sea, Scopus and Web of Knowledge are especially recommended. Other databases may be found via the Library links to databases for Medicines or Environment/ Natural Resources.
