We are aware that some students at other universities have received phishing emails purporting to be from their Finance Departments, awarding grants from the Department for Education, but originating from student email addresses at another universities. The emails claim that the recipients have been awarded a grant and ask for personal emails. Users are asked to click on a link to go to a form to complete their details. Do not click links, open attachments or reply to these emails.

The link takes users to a fake university-branded webpage, hosted on a compromised server in the US. The web page asks them for a large amount of personal data, everything necessary to steal identity and get past bank online and telephone security checks.

Please be wary and report suspicious emails to ITS.
