Success in latest university low-crime report

In the latest Complete University Guide crime table, our university has been rated 8th for low-crime levels. One of two institutions from the West Midlands to make this Top 10, Warwick recorded a score of just 21.23 incidents reported per 1,000 residents – less than half of that recorded around the university with the highest score in the region.

Calculated using the annual number of reported incidents (per 1,000 residents) around students' term-time addresses, the CUG crime score collates the reported incidence of burglaries, robberies and violent and sexual offences.

Head of Security Services Mark Kennell said: "I'm absolutely delighted to see we are in the Top 10 for low crimes. As well as some outstanding work by the team, we cannot underestimate the contribution by our valued police partners and by the Estates department, who have continued to collaborate through CPTED Principles (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design)."

Safety on Campus

Warwick hosts a part-time West Midlands Police Constable, PC Fiona Jay, to ensure university remains safe for everyone. West Midlands Police has just re-launched its "Safer Students" website, which has useful safety information for West Midlands students including online safety, public transport and nights out.

Warwick's Security Services website is full of helpful information and contacts for making your time on campus as safe as possible. The Security Services team is keen to stress that leaving personal possessions unattended in places such as the Library, and failing to secure bikes properly are the main 'crime generators' and risks on campus.

In an on-campus emergency, always call extension 22222 from an internal phone or 02476 522 222 from a mobile.
