Fergus has established a number of collaborative agreements with other departments within the University of Warwick; he developed a new service user training programme for the Medical School, devised a Foundation level programme and developed a Careers Studies PGA for the Business School. He is currently involved in the reconstruction of the University’s Part-time Degree (Flexible Studies) programme in collaboration with 17 other departments and has also overseen the development of a new Early Childhood undergraduate degree programme and a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching in the FE sector. He is also involved in the new Social Work degree apprenticeship initiative and co-developed a maths and English Centre of Excellence (WEMCE) at Warwick.

Fergus has supported CLL’s research team to develop a number of important European collaborative projects over the past decade. As part of the University’s 50th and the Centre’s 30th anniversary celebrations in 2015 he organised a number of adult and continuing education seminars and presentations and co-hosted the Centre’s inaugural Lifelong Learning conference. Last year he contributed to the development of Coventry’s successful City of Culture bid and ensured lifelong learning was one of the key themes.

PhD Supervision
Potential PhD candidates are welcome to contact regarding research proposals related to one or more of the following topics:

  • Expansion of adult learning in the Georgian and Victorian eras
  • Development of contemporary issues in the learning and skills sector

Biography and Research Interests
Fergus has been involved in number of research ventures over the past decade. He is particularly interested in the expansion of adult learning in the Georgian and Victorian eras and the development of contemporary issues in the Learning and Skills sector. He is currently involved in a number of adult education research activities.

Fergus is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Chartered Management Institute.
