Alice Kiai

I have worked in Kenya as research assistant, a secondary school teacher of English, a university lecturer and a writer of educational materials. A summary of my work and research interests can be found in my curriculum vitae(PDF Document)

My interest in researching textbooks arose in the process of co-authoring textbooks for secondary school English from 2002 to 2005. The various materials that were developed in this period are in current use in Kenyan schools. Following the award of an Academic Staff Scholarship under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, I pursued a PhD by research at the Centre for Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick. In my study, I developed a 'textbook biography' by examining five processes in the life of textbook, ranging from conceptualization to classroom use. Welcome to my e-portfolio - for more, please read on.

Textbooks: A product and a process

This e-portfolio reflects my research and academic pursuit from September 2008 - April 2012, upon successful completion of my study.
