Centre for Applied Linguistics

The Centre for Applied Linguistics are an interdisciplinary centre, founded in 1983, with an international reputation for their research, teaching and consultancy in the areas of language learning, teaching and assessment, discourse analysis and intercultural communication.

Centre for Lifelong Learning

The Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) is responsible for a broad range of activities which form a key component of the University’s widening participation strategy and which make a major contribution to Warwick’s engagement with its local communities and with the wider region. For over 25 years the University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning has been at the forefront of efforts to widen participation to higher education for local adult learners. Over that period the Open Studies programme has provided a first taste of higher level study to tens of thousands of students, many of whom have gone onto further study either at Warwick or elsewhere. 

Centre for Professional Education

The Centre for Professional Education (CPE) is the University of Warwick’s global service provider for high quality training and professional education. This new centre builds on the success of Warwick’s existing expertise in teacher training, which was most recently graded as outstanding by OfSTED in 2010. In addition to the traditional PGCE core training route, the CPE also offers PGCE School Direct. Our PGCEs cover early years, primary and secondary across a range of subject specialisms and all include Masters level credits as standard.

Chemistry

Warwick Chemistry is one of the top departments in the UK and is an international centre of excellence for the Chemical Sciences. Their research, and research-led teaching, spans the full range of traditional subdisciplines as well as several exciting interdisciplinary themes. They are actively engaged in multidisciplinary research programmes across the Warwick campus and with other universities, research institutes and industry both nationally and internationally. The University continues to invest heavily in the Department’s physical infrastructure and academic resources, which has led to significant growth in academic staff numbers, and cutting-edge research. The excellence of their research is demonstrated by Warwick Chemistry holding one of the largest EPSRC Research Grant Portfolios of any UK University Chemistry Department. In teaching, they have a full-time ‘Director of Student Experience’, and completely refurbished teaching laboratories.

Classics and Ancient History

The Classics Department at Warwick is one of the best in the UK. Their international reputation rests on the innovative and intensive teaching, and on research which continues to open up new aspects of Greco-Roman antiquity and its importance in later history.

Comparative American Studies

The School of Comparative American Studies (CAS) at Warwick University teaches a small and friendly four-year undergraduate degree course,History, Literature and Culture of the Americas, with an intake of approximately 25 students each year.

Computer Science

The Computer Science degrees at Warwick are internationally renowned for their blend of foundational rigour with research-led teaching in a variety of cutting edge domains within the discipline, and the Department is rated excellent for its teaching quality. The undergraduate and postgraduate courses are regularly updated to satisfy the current and future needs in all walks of life, and to reflect the rapidly evolving and challenging nature of computing.

The University of Warwick Department of Economics was created in 1965, the same time as the university itself. In the less than 50 years since its founding, the department has become widely regarded as one of the top economics departments in the United kingdom and Europe.

The Centre for Education Studies was created in 2013, following the reorganisation fo the Institute of Education. The Centre continues the strong record in research and teaching while developing new approaches and research areas, as it seeks to develop an international reputation for high-quality research and teaching.

Engineering

Warwick offers a range of exciting engineering courses that will open up a world of opportunities to you. Their international reputation for excellence in teaching and research means that your Warwick degree will be known and respected throughout the world. The courses are accredited by the key engineering institutions in the UK including the IET, InstMC, IMechE, IStructE and ICE.

Ranked in the top 10 UK departments for English by the Guardian University Guide (2014), the Times Good University Guide (2013) and the Complete University Guide (2014). The pathway structure on the BA in English Literature provides guided choice within a huge range of modules, enabling you to tailor your degree to your own interests.

Warwick was ranked as the second best department in the UK for Film and Television by the Guardian University Guide 2015. They are one of the oldest and most respected Film and Television Studies departments in the country, offering practical and intellectual resources specifically devoted to the study of film and television.

Studying History at Warwick is a truly international experience. The modules of study introduce students to history around the globe. There are opportunities to study abroad in all our programmes; the Department encourages modern foreign language skills; and many staff members in the Department conduct research in foreign languages and have themselves received higher degrees from institutions outside of the UK.

History of Art

Studying art history in Warwick is a unique experience, and not only because they are the only department of art history in the UK to offer its third year students an entire term in Venice, at their own Teaching and Research centre.

Life Sciences

The School of Life Sciences (SLS) is an international centre of excellence in interdisciplinary research and training. SLS is a BBSRC strategic partner department, but also works with MRC, NERC, EPSRC, the Wellcome Trust, and other UK and international funding organisations to pursue its research programmes. The breadth of cutting-edge research in SLS underpins teaching programmes exploring the full range of bioscience. Psychology graduates find work in a wide range of fields including healthcare, education, the legal system, business and management, sports training, workplace practice and the media.

School of Creative Arts, Performance and Visual Cultures

The School of Creative Arts, Performance and Visual Cultures department aim to promote a wide-ranging understanding of theatre and performance, and to enable you to make critical, interpretative and creative judgements about the work you encounter in a dynamic and creative environment.

School of Modern Languages and Culture

All their full-time degrees are four years in length and you'll spend the third year abroad. You can choose to study a modern language with another subject (combined honours) or on its own (single honours). They also offer the BA in Modern Languages, a new degree where you'll study three languages. There are over 100 different course combinations so you can tailor your degree structure exactly to your interests.

Sociology

The Sociology Department at Warwick is lively, friendly and one of the largest in the country. They have over 40 academic members of staff, over 80 graduate students on masters and doctoral programmes and over 400 studying on their undergraduate programmes.

Statistics

Statistical methods and the application of probability theory are essential to the understanding of data and underlying processes in a very wide variety of fields, including health sciences, economics and finance, social science, government, engineering, biological and physical sciences. Warwick Law School

Warwick Law School pioneered the study of law in its social, political and economic context. The School’s research follows many tracks, emphasising historical, international, comparative, theoretical and cross-cultural approaches. Its contextual approach encompasses criminal, commercial, corporate, environmental and human rights law. Interdisciplinary strengths include, law and development, law and gender and law and humanities.

Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG)

WMG was founded by Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya in 1980 to help reinvigorate UK manufacturing. From its inception WMG’s mission has been to improve the competitiveness of organisations through the application of value adding innovation, new technologies and skills deployment, bringing academic rigour to industrial and organisational practice.
