Tickets: £6(£4) available from choir members, at the door or online at
www.warwickrev.org

Warwick Revelation Rock-Gospel Choir presents a dynamic and inspirational evening of modern gospel and pop classics, guaranteed to make you want to stand up and dance!

We are a 170-voice choir, supported by dance, drama and a live band. With diverse influences from Kirk Franklin to Sister Act and Paul Simon, if youÂ’ve never been to a Revelation performance before, you wonÂ’t have experienced anything like it.

Warwick Revelation is a choir with a difference. We aim to create an environment where students can discover hidden abilities and talents, and develop them within the most supportive, fun and inclusive performing-arts society on campus. Our concerts are well known for the amazing sound and unlimited energy of the performersÂ…and also the audience!

So come along on 4th March and help us raise the roof!

Ok, I know this entry is a few months late, but for those who missed it or are considering going next year, here's a quick run-down of a Weekend Away

What is a Revelation Weekend Away?

A Weekend Away gives you a chance to meet people from Warwick and other Revelation choirs in the southern region (Bristol, Cambridge, Oxford, Royal Holloway and UEA). It is a social weekend which includes workshops on topics such as: arranging, conducting, warmups, music and singing – depending on what your choir has asked for. There is also an 'open forum' which gives you the chance to feedback to your choir and Revelation National.

Which workshops did you have this year?

In no particular order

  • Band arranging by Jamie, ex-Cambridge Rev (a.k.a Hollie's boyfriend and the guy dressed in a skirt and a pink feather boa whilst teaching a song at the Pink Party rehearsal)
  • Dance by Judey, Warwick Rev
  • Drama by Alex Haward, Warwick Rev
  • Choir part arranging by Jens, Cambridge Rev
  • Aims and Values by Naomi, ex-Durham Rev and now National Coordinator
  • Warmups
  • Conducting
What was the best bit?

The chocolate fountain on the Saturday night was my favourite part, but special mention also has to go to Bristol Rev for arranging Alma Church which was a great venue.

What was the worst bit?

Not realising until it was too late that there was eggy bread for breakfast as well as cereal and toast.

If I want to go next year, what do I have to do?

Firstly, listen out for announcements in rehearsals from your National Rep and/or read your Yay! Mail. There will also be further information and a sign-up form on the National Revelation website

We've had quite a few enquiries about the CD for this year's Piazza concert, Summer Revvin' in June. We're working very hard to have the CD out this term, but to keep you excited, have a look at the Warwick TV website and remember the good times we had!

Last year Revelation were given the opportunity to go to Barbados as part of Warwick's 40th Anniversary celebrations. Lots of us went and had a wonderful time [some of which is reviewed here .], not in the least because of the workshops organized. That is, us doing workshops at local high schools!

Following from all the fun we had teaching the kids some of our songs [and them teaching us some groovy bajan dance hall moves!] and remembering the large number of teachers in Rev, lots of thoughts popped up in Chrisi's mind and she came up with the crazy idea to organize school workshops in the Coventry area! Starting at her own keen school in Kenilworth, where we taught 5 year olds the main bits to Lean on Me [using the best movements we could think of, with the boys ending up leaning on each other's shoulders like a bunch of homies!] we ended up doing quite a few workshops in term 3. It was so much fun that I personally ended up doing one right before catching a plane to Holland!

We like to think it's not just fun for us, but for the kids as well! There is the occasional cheeky boy [usually boy, girls are ok singing] explaining there is no way on earth he could enjoy singing a song, but in the end, they all sing and sway and do the mandatory actions to the songs we teach. And they smile while doing all that too!

Anyway – I was writing this entry trying to encourage/convince some of you to come along to a workshop! Teaching is a greatly fulfilling occupation, especially when you see someone actually learning something! When after 3 hours of hard work teaching the kids songs, they end up singing those songs to their parents and teachers, it's at least as amazing as performing with Rev yourself!

While all the happy freshers are enjoying a pink top B, I'd like to remind everyone of our Pink Party tomorrow! Wear your favourite pink clothes to rehearsal as part of breast cancer awareness month and help us raise lots of money for the linked charities by bringing stuff you don't need but someone else might buy. And look forward to Claude's homebaked pink cakes! Also, there will be singing. It's still Rev we're talking about here!

are you doing reading this entry!?

7:30pm you should be ready to go to Top B and meet Shaun and Claude and more Revvers and boogie! So turn off your computer and run to the Bar! Shaun is the dude with the massive amount of hair (compared to before summer) and Claude is the lovely blonde girl that grins at you. Yes, that one! Go!

If you really have to do work tonight, please consider joining us for busking tomorrow in the Piazza! If you don't want to sing slash lost your voice slash don't know the songs, please come along anyway and wear your Rev top and you can hand out flyers or smile all day with Ali. She's got fresher's flu. The poor girl. Oh wait! Time! Meet 2:30pm in the Piazza and be ready to sing!

Alternatively, come to rehearsal tomorrow night (7:30pm in the Chaplaincy) and have fun!

It's the first rehearsal of the term tonight, so if you're a new or returning member – I'm going to be really excited to see you all tonight!

We (as always!) have some fab new songs to learn – I'm not going to reveal what – they are just one of the surprises for everyone tonight!

Also, if you can't make tonight's rehearsal, don't worry, come next week! We don't take a register or tell people off for missing rehearsals so you can join at any time throughout the year.

Any questions, visit our website www.warwickrev.org or email us via the blog.

It's not just a choir, it's a way of life!

Thanks to everyone who sang in the Marketplace yesterday, it was so good to see everyone again after the summer!

Today we'll be singing again, starting at the Piazza at 2pm and singing around campus (esp. freshers' halls!), bring your Rev T-shirt and loads of enthuasiasm!

p.s As this entry is world-viewable if you are reading this entry and you're not yet a member of Rev and would like to learn a load of Rev songs this afternoon, then you're very welcome too! Otherwise, rehearsals are 7.30pm – 9.30pm – Tuesdays – Chaplaincy (next to Warwick Arts Centre)

Hi Revvers!

For those of you who have skim read the Yay! mail Thor sent last week we will be doing an open rehearsal with International Students for Orientation week on Friday 23rd Sept. The times have now been confirmed as 2pm - 3pm. The Chaplaincy is busy this week with the Pots and Pans sale, so I reckon we should meet on the Piazza.

Please, please come and help out if you're around…it will be great to see everyone again!

Thor will send a Yay! mail about this when he gets back from his hols…
