Rehearsal

What happens in a Warwick Rev Rehearsal?

Rev rehearsals tend to follow a similar pattern every week. Here's what to expect when you turn up for a rehearsal. Remember, we won't force you to participate in any of these if you don't want to!

Warm Ups - 7.45pm, Every Tuesday during term time

Warm-ups are often a bit wacky / childish but they do have a serious side - they are designed to help us improve our singing (and help us not lose our voices!). They are pretty easy to pick up and are split into 3 vague categories:

  1. Breathing - These are to show us how to use our diaphragms when singing e.g. pregnant ladies, candles, ballerina.
  2. Range - These are variations of scales gradually moving to low or high notes to increase the amount of notes we can sing. e.g "1 1-2-1 1-2-3-2-1...", "Up above my head...", "Down below my feet...", "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious", "I'm so dizzy my head is spinning"
  3. Physical - These are silly songs or rounds to get our bodies warm. e.g "Heads, shoulder, knees and toes", "Badger, badger, badger", "Funky chicken", "This train...", "one ginger beer", "button factory"
Warm-ups are a good way of getting in front of the choir for the first time, as you can lead them by yourself or as a group. All you need to do is speak to the Music coordinator before the rehearsal starts.

Singing - Approx. 8pm - Current songs

This is the part where we run a song we already know or begin learning a new one. Don't worry if you don't know one of the songs, they are easy to pick up and we won't get annoyed if you aren't singing it right! We tend to quickly recap all of the songs each term to ensure everyone knows what the section parts sound like. We practice for concerts which usually happen at the end of term, although sometimes we get offered additional smaller gigs around the area.

Break - Approx. 9pm

Break happens in the middle of rehearsal to rest our voices. This is a chance to get to know people, catch up and chat while consuming some Haribo or vegetarian alternative! We can grab some water to keep hydrated and notices are made to keep the choir informed of things that are upcoming. Pause for Thoughts happen during this time which is an opportunity for people to speak about anything they wish!

Singing - Approx 9.15pm

We resume singing for the remainder of rehearsal

Pub - Approx 10pm

We head over to the Dirty duck or Terrace Bar after rehearsal to socialise and relax! We're not a heavy drinking society, and won't force anyone to drink if they don't want to!
