    Andrew Inglis

    Name: Andrew Inglis

    Position: PhD Student

    Supervisor: Prof. Valery Nakariakov

    Funding: STFC

Research Area: Investigating quasi-periodic pulsations (QPP) in solar flares. We can use X-ray data from satellites such as Yohkoh and RHESSI in tandem with microwave data from ground based interferometers like the Nobeyama Radioheliograph (NoRH), to examine flares that exhibit QPP. The aim is to better understand which mechanisms - such as MHD mode instabilities - might be driving these pulsations. Key to this area of research is the ability to spatially resolve such solar flares, which only recent technological advances have made possible. You can find out more about the study of the Sun and flares here.

Teaching: I am a demonstrator and marker for two experiments in the first year laboratory .

Other Interests: I am an amateur musician and conductor, and currently play Trombone and Euphonium with the University of Warwick Wind Orchestra and the University of Warwick Symphony Orchestra.

RHESSI Nuggets: I am the author of a recent RHESSI nugget. These nuggets, published every couple of weeks, describe the ongoing active solar research involving RHESSI.
