    Research Area

General plasma physics with special interest in dense plasmas. Equilibrium and nonequilibrium properties of these systems as they may be relevant for the basic understanding of matter under extreme conditions, for stars, giant gas planets, and (inertial) fusion devices.

A dense plasma is a fully or partially ionized state of matter with densities orders of magnitude below to orders of magnitude above solid state density. Temperatures range from a couple of hundred Kelvin to some million Kelvins.

According to the wide range of physical parameters, a number of different techniques is used to describe dense plasmas.

    • quantum statistical theory of Green's function (GF)
    • classical statistical theory (HNC)
    • Monte Carlo (MC) and molecular dynamics (MD)
    • quantum simulation techniques as density functional theory (DFT)
    • hybrid technologies as DFT-MD or GF-DFT
