Background
WMG was founded by Professor Lord Bhattacharyya in 1980 to help reinvigorate UK manufacturing. From its inception WMG's mission has been to improve the competitiveness of organisations through the application of value adding innovation, new technologies and skills deployment, bringing academic rigour to industrial and organisational practice. An academic department of the University of Warwick, the group started small - just an office, the Professor and his secretary. Today we are one of the world's leading research groups. Over 450 people work across four buildings on the Warwick campus (with a fifth under construction) plus collaborative centres in six countries with an annual programme of £140m which includes industrial and in-kind support.

Our continued success is the result of cutting-edge research and knowledge transfer, working collaboratively with companies and other organisations internationally to produce innovative approaches to current and future challenges.
International
We are an international group, with collaborative centres in the UK, India, China, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore and Thailand. As advocates of manufacturing, innovation and technology, we provide expert advice to many overseas governments, who have visited us to study how we operate, in order to develop similar initiatives in their own countries.
Research
The strength of our research expertise spans digital manufacturing, technologies and healthcare; materials and manufacturing; and operations and business management. Innovative thinking is at the heart of everything we do and for many years we have been taking the knowledge and expertise we have built in the manufacturing sector and applying it successfully to different sectors including automotive, aerospace and defence, digital, energy and utilities, finance, food and drink, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
Education
We are a leading centre for world class management studies, offering unrivalled postgraduate and professional education programmes. We attract students onto our Master's programmes from across the globe who recognise and value our approach to research and impact driven education. We also have professionals from a wide range of sectors recognise that our unique combination of industry experience will provide the academic excellence to elevate their career to a higher level.
