Contemporary Topics in Digital Healthcare
This module provides an overview of the various issues and problems associated with digital healthcare through the exploration of contemporary issues in a systematic manner. Students will be introduced to the concept of team-based learning by working on case studies to investigate the issues/problems at hand. Students will work in multi-disciplinary teams to conduct primary or tertiary literature searches and brainstorm on various strategies to tackle the problems.
Students are guided to explore the following issues/problems with regards to a contemporary topic in every session:
- Digital media channels applied in healthcare
- Roles and responsibilities of healthcare professionals, patients, technical specialists and stakeholders in digital healthcare
- Ethics and law (including privacy and security issues)
- Roles of digital media in public health and health promotion
- Designing for the patient: user-centered, experience-centered and activity-centered designs
- Economics and patient-centered outcomes
- Research updates in digital healthcare
Each contemporary topic will focus on a specific healthcare specialization:
- Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes
- Sports, rehabilitation and surgery
- Neurological diseases
- Pharmaceuticals and medications management
- Diseases of the sensory organs
