WMG hosts a visit by the Worshipful Company of Engineers

Visit of The Worshipful Company of EngineersWMG was pleased to welcome, and host, The Worshipful Company of Engineers on 26th February 2014.

Meeting with Professor Lord Bhattacharyya and senior staff, the Master, Graham Skinner, and members were interested to find out more about the breadth of research activities undertaken, as well as how WMG develops partnerships with industry and the significant economic and social benefits of such partnerships.

To cater for the rich background, professional disciplines and sector focus of the members of The Worshipful Company of Engineers, a tour of WMG included a wide range of technologies and research. Starting in the International Automotive Research Centre the visitors heard about our energy storage research and the development of the new Energy Innovation Centre from Professor Paul Jennings and his team.

Professor Robert Harrison with The Worshipful Company of EngineersIn the International Digital Laboratory they met with Professor Theo Arvanitis who gave them an overview of the Institute of Digital Healthcare. In the International Institute of Product and Service Innovation, Dr Greg Gibbons discussed innovations in additive layer manufacturing, Dr Ben Wood WMG’s impact in new products with SMEs and Professor Tony McNally introduced the new International Institute for Nanocomposite Manufacturing. In the International Manufacturing Centre Professor Richard Dashwood introduced composites and light-weighting research and Professor Robert Harrison demonstrated his automation systems, along with Professor Mark Williams who demonstrated metrology research and product visualisation through a 3D powerwall.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, Chairman and founder of WMG said:

It was wonderful to have so many engineers in one place, all interested in what we are doing here at WMG. I know they are all enthusiastic about promoting engineering as a discipline and I hope that what they have seen here highlights what WMG is doing to promote research in an applied way and develop the engineers of tomorrow.”
